SIM2 introduces three new projectors at CEDIA Expo 2026: the UltraNero 4S, the UltraNero 4S HC and the UltraNero 4S DUO
Denver, CO. SIM2, which has designed and engineered high-end home cinema projectors in Italy since 1995, introduces three new projectors at CEDIA Expo 2026.
They share one platform and one approach: Seeing First, which asks the same question before every engineering decision. Will the viewer see the difference? The answer changes with the room, the screen and the eye, and that is why the UltraNero platform is now three projectors, each with its own specialty.
UltraNero 4S: the platform, expanded. The UltraNero platform was built around a problem that is easy to state and hard to solve. High light output is simple to claim and difficult to keep clean. The engineering challenge is not producing 7,000 lumen: it is delivering them without giving up black level, contrast, color consistency, uniformity or long-term stability. That is what the UltraNero 4 established when it brought the platform to high-end private cinema: over 95% brightness uniformity across the screen, ceramic optical components engineered to hold precision and color over time, a laser source rated up to 20,000 hours and 30,000 in ECO mode, motorized zoom with horizontal and vertical lens shift, and all of it below 30 dB.
The UltraNero 4S extends that platform where a high-output projector is hardest to control: in the contrast, and in the freedom to install it. DynamicBlack and ExtremeBlack management refined and stored separately for SDR and HDR, so the adaptive behavior is optimized for each rather than compromised between the two. ExtremeBlack active on every input, not on a subset. Two SIM2 display modes, SIM2-1 and SIM2-2, with SIM2 colorimetry applied out of the box, so the calibrated starting point is there before the first measurement. Freely adjustable image correction with up to five installation setups saved to lens memory and recalled with a single command, for the rooms that do not allow the ideal geometry. UltraNero 4S HC: a different balance, for a different room. In a fully light-controlled theater with a moderate screen size, contrast and tonal separation are where the room gives back everything you put into them. The UltraNero 4S HC puts its engineering there. It keeps the control, digital geometry, memory and image management of the UltraNero platform, and is built around a completely new optical bench designed for contrast performance, tonal separation and perceived depth, with tone mapping and an HDR curve developed by SIM2 R&D to match it. Deeper native blacks, and separation held in the part of the image where it is hardest to hold. Up to 5,000 lumen, DLP 4K HDR-10, operating noise below 30 dB. Available December 2026.
UltraNero 4S DUO: two projectors, one image, each seeing what the other cannot. Every projector has to fit the full range of a mastered image into the light it can produce. On the largest screens, SIM2 divided that work between two specialized imaging engines. Two native 4K laser DLP engines, deliberately not identical: one tuned around the brilliance and energy of highlights, the other, with its own high-contrast optical configuration and its own lens, around depth, tonal separation and shadow detail. Each follows its own HDR curve and tone mapping. Electrically controlled micrometric optical shift and precision warping hold them in pixel-accurate convergence, and the combined EOTF and calibration were redesigned so the pair behaves as one projection system rather than two projectors aimed at the same screen. Measured, the color gamut stays DCI-P3 while the available color volume doubles compared with a single engine. Seen, the difference is larger than the measurement suggests: viewers perceive up to 30% more contrast and up to 50% richer color saturation, which is what gives the image its sense of depth and realism.
